  • EQUIPMENT Recall for 1979 PONTIAC SUNBIRD

    • Recall Announced OCTOBER 24 2007
    • NHTSA Reference #07E088000
    • Number Affected 121,680

    Summary: Certain honeywell fram racing brand HP4 and HP8 oil filters that were manufactured from May 25, 2006, through September 14, 2007, and sold for use as replacement equipment for vehicles list above. The affected filters are marked with a date code A61451 through A72571 sequentially. The date code and part number appear on the filter housing. Fram racing HP4 and HP8 oil filters not bearing a date code in this range are not affected by this recall. The gasket of the oil filter becomes more pliable under high temperatures and pressures.

    Consequence: This condition may cause inadequate sealing and loss of engine oil, possibly resulting in a fire.

    Fix: Honeywell will replace the affected oil filters free of charge. The recall began during November 2007. Owners can contact fram customer service toll-free at 1-800-890-2075.

  • FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS Recall for 1979 PONTIAC SUNBIRD

    • Recall Announced JUNE 13 1979
    • NHTSA Reference #79V151000
    • Number Affected 42,977

    Summary: The carburetor fuel feed hose may not have been properly positioned during assembly. As a result the hose could come in contact with or be too close to the engine emission exhaust system gas recirculation valve. This can cause the hose to rupture.

    Consequence: 

    Fix: The dealer will inspect the fuel feed hose and reposition it, if necessary. Also, any damaged hose will be replaced.

  • ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING Recall for 1979 PONTIAC SUNBIRD

    • Recall Announced MAY 06 1979
    • NHTSA Reference #79V141000
    • Number Affected 4,208

    Summary: The engine oil pressure switch may cause a random internal electrical short which could result in the engine starting by itself when the ignition switch is turned to the "on" position.

    Consequence: 

    Fix: Dealer will replace the oil pressure switches on all suspect vehicles at no cost to owner.
